Scholarly or Academic Research articles or journals are articles that present the findings of a study, research, or experimentation. This type of article is written by experts in a discipline for other experts in that discipline. Scholarly articles are considered more reliable than most other sources because the results are based on research, not conjecture or opinion.
Scholarly articles usually share these characteristics:
- considered unbiased within their discipline
- backed up by evidence
- published in academic, scholarly, scientific or empirical journals
- original research, experimentation or in-depth studies in specific academic fields
- results are generalizable across populations
- use a research methodology that is replicable
- authors are experts in the field and list their credentials
- always have an abstract or summary paragraph
- language includes specialized terms and the jargon of the discipline
- often reviewed by author's peers before publication
When you are doing research, you will want to use scholarly journal articles.
